October 28th Recap

Thank you for attending the October 28th meeting with folks from the SPD North Precinct! We had Captain George Davisson and Operations Lieutenant Garth, both sworn officers who have both been with SPD for 25 years. We had Crime Prevention Coordinator Katelyn Yep, a civilian, and two CSOs (Community Service Officers) there. Did you know the North Precinct covers 247,00 people, more than Spokane? On its own it would be the second largest city in the state!

On crime stats, Fremont is mostly non-violent, and all crimes are down year over year except arson, mostly due to warming fires started by unsheltered people that spread. Why, if crime is down, does SPD still have a low legitimacy rating? As hiring improves, they hope to have time to get out and talk to people more, work with businesses, build community relationships, and be more responsive. Captain Davisson missed his son’s baseball game to be with us and wishes he could split himself in two! Big thanks to the North Precinct folks for coming to talk to us.

Announcements: There were Halloween events, community clean-ups, and bookstore socials (sorry for not getting news out ahead of time). Fremont Creative District is having a booth at the Sunday Market under the bridge on November 16th for people to come by and work on painting a mural. Ross Park Hub is having an open house on November 15. Colleen would like to start another emergency hub near the Troll, contact her if you are interested. To help support Ukraine, there are Thursday meetings at European Foods on Aurora, 7pm.  And FNC has a new website, with Merch (thanks Brandon)!
