September Candidate Forum Recap

Hello Neighbors!
Thank you for turning out for the Candidate Forum on September 29th! Candidates for state offices representing the 43rd Legislative District came to talk with us about their legislative priorities and some of the issues to be faced. We had Jamie Pedersen and Hannah Sabio-Howell for Senate and Nicole Macri for House Position 1. Colleen Kaminski and Timothy Kitchen were our moderators.
Thank you to the candidates for presenting themselves to the neighborhood! It takes a huge amount of time, effort and resources to run for public office. We are grateful to everyone with a desire for public service who makes that effort, and for all of you for participating in democracy at the local level.
What was discussed? The candidates talked about their legislative priorities, then responded to questions about affordability, pedestrian and traffic safety, privacy protections, immigrant rights, access to grocery stores, support for striking workers, trans youth initiatives, and big money in politics. It’s important to hear the Candidates respond in their own words! Listen to the Facebook Live recording to hear them. The discussions were cordial and respectful, and all three candidates united behind the need to show up and vote in this election, and in particular to vote against the three initiatives on the ballot. However you cast your vote, mail in or drop off your ballots before November 3rd!

Upcoming Events
October 10th:
This is a really big day in the Neighborhood! The Best Day Ever and the Hunt the Universe events are happening semi-concurrently, and the B.F. Day Emergency Hub Grand Opening is mid-day.
Best Day Ever registration is filled but you can be added to the waitlist. There is an article about the event on KOMO news. Part of the event features Solid Ground, who started out as the Fremont Public Association over 50 years ago! Our own Fremont Neighbor Aly Teeter made this event happen.
You can still register for Hunt the Universe! Both events will begin with breakfast at the Doric Lodge, which also serves as the Hunt HQ. There is a shared social event later in the day at the Fremont Social. Get a team of friends together for a Fremont scavenger hunt, or just sign up to be put on a team and make new friends. Be a part of this very fun, wacky Fremont event!
B.F. Day Emergency Hub grand opening is from 11am to 1pm at the B.F. Day Playfield. There will be coffee and donuts. You can read more about it at Fremont Neighbor. There is also a presentation on emergency hubs from May 2025. Find out more about how to be prepared and how to help yourself and your neighbors in an emergency, and get ready for the Great ShakeOut on October 15th!
Other October events can be found listed on the Fremont Neighbor digital light pole, here. There will also be a big event that is not in Fremont, but that the Fremont Arts Council and others are working hard on: Dia de lost Muertos at Pike Place Market on October 23rd. This is the biggest Day of the Dead event in the PNW.
